VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR YARD WORK DAY
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR
YARD WORK DAY, SATURDAY MAY 17th
FROM 9:00 AM TO 12:00 PM

Volunteers are needed to help our yard crew spread sand and mulch and weed the church lawn.  We will meet at the church parking lot at 9:00 AM and caravan to the South River Sand Company, located on Butler Bridge Road, in Newton County.  That is just off of GA. Hwy. 20, about a mile south of Browns Bridge Road.

We need at least 15 pick up trucks of sand.  The South River Sand Company will load your pickup with their Bobcat and the cost is only $10.00 per load.  Bring a friend or two to help you off load the sand on the church property.  There will be people from the Yard Crew to tell you where to off load the sand on the church property.

If you would like to volunteer, please call Bruce Ahlstrand 770.483.2946, Ed Stegherr 770.784.9387, or Phil Brown 770.483.6818.

Please come out and help us make Epiphany Lutheran Church the best looking church grounds in the County.

Thank you!

May 18th Special Worship Time!
On Sunday, May 18th we will be having one service at 10:30  AM, following the service we invite you to join us for a pot luck lunch at 12:00 PM in the Main Hall along with this year’s Ministry Volunteer Fair.  The purpose of this is to focus on the marks of  discipleship, as lifted up in our  mission statement:

“We are disciples of Christ
We follow Him by leading others to His Grace through
Worship, Education, Stewardship and Outreach
To those in need
And in Service
To all”

The Ministry Volunteer Fair provides opportunities for every person in our Church community to consider the gifts and talents they have been given by God.  Prepare to be  surprised at how your talents can further the mission of Christ’s Church!

The main hall will be filled with tables from various ministries of Epiphany Lutheran Church.  So please join us for this opportunity to fill your body, mind and spirit!  We are called not only to be members of a congregation, most of all we are  disciples of Christ!

Community News
Several people in the congregation have asked about the Angel Food Ministries Program and if we could become more involved.  The program is a non-profit, non-denominational organization that started in   Monroe, Georgia in 1994.  It provides medium-sized boxes of food once a month for a price of $30/unit.  Each month’s selection is different and consists of fresh and frozen items with a retail value of approximately $60.  For more information on the program, check the following  website: www.angelfoodministries.com.  Because there are now eight distribution sites in the   Conyers area, our committee has decided not to become one at this time.  There is a complete list of host churches in the area at the above website.

The National Day of Prayer is being hosted at the City of Conyers Auditorium in Olde Town on Thursday, May 1 from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.  We would like to send an Epiphany prayer team for specified hours to the event.  If you are interested in more information, please contact Rachel Flow at 404.897.6448.

HICOR – Habitat Consortium of Rockdale – held the “Sock Hop” here at Epiphany on April 5.  Unfortunately, there were only a few who attended from our church and St. Pius.  It was a fun event for those few, but it was not the fund-raiser it was hoped to be.

A request for emergency assistance was sent to our committee from Lutheran Services of Georgia.  An explanation of the dire situation is included in the LSG request printed in this newsletter.  Social Ministry sent $250 to LSG to help the members of this refugee family in their time of need.

There is a new sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the narthex for Meals on Wheels volunteers.  We are now responsible for one delivery route on the first two Saturdays of each month.  The months of June and August are posted on the board.  The program takes its vacation in July.  Please consider volunteering for this worthy cause.

We continue to gather items of food, clothing and kitchen supplies for the Rockdale Emergency Relief.   There are bins in the breezeway for your donations.  Thanks go to all who have donated items.

Be sure to stop by our table at the Ministry Fair on May 18th between services in the Main Hall to see what we’re all about and consider signing up for the many opportunities we offer.
